Trivia Question❓

What nautical landmark guided ships into Charlotte Harbor and led to the first removal in Southwest Florida history—yet was demolished before most local residents were born?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

(At least we're Number 10!)

Charlotte County Public Schools have achieved their highest rating in over ten years, earning a 'B' from the Florida Department of Education for 2024–2025 and coming within 0.25% of an 'A'.

This significant leap underscores dramatic gains in academic performance throughout the district.Nine local schools earned 'A' ratings—an 80% increase from last year—demonstrating strong progress and commitment to excellence.

Superintendent Mark Vianello praised students, teachers, staff, and parents, highlighting their dedication as the driving force behind this success.

He acknowledged that while one grade doesn't reveal every detail, the results spotlight the district’s core belief that every student can thrive.

Investments in instructional rigor, data-driven coaching, and student-centered learning have fueled this success, with schools like Deep Creek Elementary and L.A. Ainger Middle School leading the way.

The district now aims to build on these achievements as it looks ahead to the new academic year.

💡 Answer to Trivia Question:

The Charlotte Harbor Lighthouse

Yes, Charlotte Harbor once featured a Lighthouse, built in 1890 to help guide vessels into Punta Gorda’s railroad docks, and stood on iron pilings in the deeper channel of Charlotte Harbor. It was automated in 1918 and ultimately demolished in 1943, with its iron pilings removed as late as 1975—a rare case of a functional lighthouse entirely disappearing from local memory.
