Trivia Questionâť“

Accrdintg to the Florida Division of Historical Resources, what historical figure is Port Charlotte, Florida named after and for what reason?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Charlotte County has enacted a new ordinance tightening rules for electric bicycles (e-bikes) and personal electric devices, responding to a marked rise in thefts, reckless riding, and deadly accidents.

The Charlotte County Board of Commissioners adopted these changes after the Sheriff’s Office highlighted 81 bike thefts—35 involving e-bikes—and 28 crashes, including two fatalities, since April 2025.

Port Charlotte commuters are set to benefit as the long-awaited expansion of Kings Highway (CR 769) moves closer to reality.

Decades of congestion may soon end, with plans to transform this critical route into a modern, four-lane highway.

The initial phase targets the stretch from Sandhill Boulevard to the DeSoto County line, promising protected turn lanes, improved street lighting, and safer pedestrian sidewalks.

Bids for construction opened January 14, 2026, and the contract’s award is expected in early February.

If approved, work begins in May 2026, eyeing completion by late 2027.

Meanwhile, FDOT is preparing a 1.2-mile extension into DeSoto County, with construction scheduled for 2027.

Ongoing public input and planned drainage improvements ensure these upgrades create a reliable, high-capacity corridor for thousands of daily travelers.

Reduced traffic and better emergency routes are finally..
