Detwilers' Farm Market announces new location sure to please Port Charlotte residents

Detwilers Farm Market soon becoming just a

"Hop, Skip and a Jump" Away

Port Charlotte Just Won the Grocery Lottery… And Nobody Had to Build It Here. Sometimes the best thing to happen to Port Charlotte doesn't actually happen in Port Charlotte. It happens just a few minutes up the road.

That's exactly what unfolded this week when Detwiler's Farm Market officially announced its newest location will be built at the intersection of  US 75 & Sumter Boulevard.

The announcement was made during Tuesday's North Port City Commission meeting, ending years of speculation about where the wildly popular grocery chain would land next.

This Isn't Just Another Grocery Store.

If you've never shopped at Detwiler's, let me save you from making a rookie mistake. Don't grab the little shopping cart. You'll regret it.

You walk in planning to pick up tomatoes and chicken breasts.

Thirty minutes later you're pushing around enough fresh produce to feed a Little League tournament, carrying homemade pies that weren't on your list, debating which artisan cheese belongs on tonight's charcuterie board, and wondering how smoked sausage somehow found its way into your cart.

That's what Detwiler's does. It's less like grocery shopping and more like visiting the world's largest farmers market... with air conditioning.

The family-owned company has built an almost cult-like following across Southwest Florida by focusing on fresh produce, premium meats, seafood, Amish specialties, scratch-made bakery items and prices that often surprise first-time shoppers. Their official website proudly sums it up with four simple words: "Eat Fresh for Less."

Port Charlotte Residents Are the Real Winners. Here's the part that should have every Port Charlotte shopper smiling. Sure, the store carries a North Port address. But maps don't care about city limits. The new location sits immediately north of Charlotte County along the U.S. 41 corridor, making it dramatically closer for thousands of Port Charlotte residents who have been driving all the way to the Venice Detwiler's for years.

Depending on where you live, your grocery run could soon be cut nearly in half. That's more time eating homemade donuts......and less time staring at brake lights on Tamiami Trail.

The Best Businesses Create Destinations. Most grocery stores compete on convenience. Detwiler's competes on experience. People don't just stop there because it's nearby. They make special trips. They bring visiting family. They tell their friends. They leave with stories.

That's the kind of business every community wants nearby because it doesn't simply attract shoppers—it attracts spending. Nearby restaurants benefit. Neighboring retailers benefit. The entire commercial corridor becomes busier. That ripple effect is exactly why announcements like this matter well beyond grocery shopping.

The Road Trip Just Got Shorter.

One of Southwest Florida's favorite grocery stores is officially headed to North Port. And for thousands of Port Charlotte families, that means one very important thing. Your next homemade pie, fresh seafood dinner, bakery stop, or produce haul is about to require a whole lot less windshield time.
