Florida’s home insurance market is experiencing rapid changes, with Citizens Property Insurance Corp. reducing its policy count and shifting coverage to private insurers through a process called depopulation.
State regulators report over a dozen new or returning insurers—like Stand Insurance Exchange, Praxis Reciprocal Exchange, Viceroy Preferred Insurance, and Vision Insurance Exchange—have entered the state since 2022’s legislative reforms.
Established carriers such as Florida Peninsula, Slide, SafePoint, and Southern Oak are also expanding by taking on these “take-out” policies.
This growth, spurred by fewer lawsuits and calmer storm seasons, is providing more options and sometimes lower rates for homeowners. However, older or higher-risk homes may still face limited offers or stricter terms.
