WSRZ’s Friday Night Dance Party Is Finally Coming to Port Charlotte |
10 Years in the Making..Coming to The Twisted Fork |
If you've never been....you don't know what your missin'
For more than a decade, 107.9 WSRZ’s Friday Night Dance Party has been a familiar tradition across the Sarasota–Bradenton area, drawing listeners together for nights of music, dancing, and community connection. The event’s long history is documented through years of coverage, photo galleries, and recaps published on the station’s official Friday Night Dance Party page.
What it has never done in all that time is stop in Port Charlotte. That changes on Thursday, February 27, when the long-running dance party makes its first-ever appearance in Port Charlotte, landing at The Twisted Fork, a venue known for hosting live music and large community events in Charlotte County.
A Decade-Long Tradition — Until Now, North of the Peace RiverThe Friday Night Dance Party is not a new or experimental promotion. According to WSRZ’s archived event history, the dance party has been running for more than 10 years, regularly rotating through venues in Sarasota and Bradenton.
Over the years, the station has published extensive photo galleries and recaps, including coverage of events such as the dance party held at Bombón in Sarasota, available through WSRZ’s iHeartRadio platform. Those archives consistently show the event taking place north of Charlotte County, with no prior listings in Port Charlotte, making the February 27 stop a clear first for the community.
Hosted by Familiar Voices With Deep WSRZ RootsThe event is hosted by David Jones and Meredith Michaels, the on-air duo behind WSRZ’s morning programming. David Jones has been a fixture on 107.9 WSRZ for decades, serving as one of the most recognizable radio voices on the Suncoast. His long tenure as a morning DJ has helped anchor the station’s identity and community presence, with Jones frequently representing WSRZ at live events throughout the region.
Meredith Michaels, Jones’ co-host, regularly appears alongside him at station-sponsored gatherings and promotions. Her involvement in the Friday Night Dance Party is reflected in WSRZ event announcements and social media posts, including those shared through her public Facebook profile.
Together, Jones and Michaels have helped turn the Friday Night Dance Party into a repeatable, long-running social event rather than a one-off radio appearance.
Why the Port Charlotte Stop MattersAfter more than ten years of appearances elsewhere on the Suncoast, bringing the Friday Night Dance Party to Port Charlotte represents more than a simple change of venue.
Hosting the event at The Twisted Fork also highlights the venue’s growing role as a regional entertainment destination, with a calendar that regularly features live music and large-scale gatherings. Event Details
A First, After Ten YearsBased on WSRZ’s documented event archives, past venue listings, and current promotional announcements, February 27 marks the first time the Friday Night Dance Party has ever been held in Port Charlotte . For longtime WSRZ listeners, it’s a familiar event in a new place. For Port Charlotte, it’s the arrival of something that’s been happening just up the road — for more than a decade — without ever stopping here.
That alone makes this night different. |
