Lee County Commissioners Implement New Boca Grande
Republican Commissioners Unanimously Approve Measures Affecting Residents & Visitors
Boca Grande, renowned for its pristine beaches and tranquil ambiance, is undergoing significant changes to its parking regulations.
On August 5, 2025, the Lee County Commissioners unanimously approved a new parking ordinance aimed at managing the increasing influx of visitors and preserving the island's unique character.
The ordinance introduces a permit system for extended parking:
Permit Categories:
A: Residents B: Hotel guests C: Island business employees D: House guests or service providers Fines for violations have been set to deter non-compliance: Parking Violations: Up to $300 Blocking Driveways: Up to $500
Although the ordinance took effect on August 11, enforcement will commence once appropriate signage and permit systems are fully implemented.
The decision has sparked a heated debate within the community. Of course, many have blamed each of the political parties for the Ordinance.
However, based on public records, the ordinance passed with unanimous support from the five-member board of Lee County Commissioners, all of whom are registered Republicans.
Commissioner Kevin Ruane introduced the motion, with Brian Hamman seconding it, and David Mulicka proposing several amendments. Mike Greenwell and Cecil Pendergrass were also part of the unanimous vote. |
