One of the region’s most familiar medical centers has a new name—and a new future. AdventHealth has officially rebranded the former ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte facility as AdventHealth Port Charlotte, completing its acquisition and bringing the hospital under its growing statewide network. It follows AdventHealth Florida’s March 2025 purchase of several ShorePoint properties, including hospitals in Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda.

The move strengthens AdventHealth’s presence along Florida’s Gulf Coast and positions the organization to invest in expanded services, upgraded technology, and enhanced patient care.

According to AdventHealth, patients will begin to see gradual changes in signage, staff uniforms, and facility branding over the coming months. However, leadership emphasizes that continuity of care remains a top priority—many of the same doctors, nurses, and support teams will continue serving the community, now with access to a broader statewide network of specialists and resources.

The health system has signaled plans to introduce additional programs in cardiology, emergency medicine, and women’s health as part of the rebrand. It also aims to bring its signature “AdventHealth Way” patient-experience standards to the Port Charlotte campus, focusing on whole-person care that addresses body, mind, and spirit.

This brings to a close for the ShorePoint Health era in Charlotte County and signals new momentum for local healthcare.

With AdventHealth’s established reputation for innovation and community partnerships, residents can expect a more integrated network of care that connects Port Charlotte to major regional hospitals across Florida.

Charlotte County Opens Utility Assistance Applications

The Charlotte County Human Services Department is now accepting applications for its Utility Assistance Program, a vital resource designed to help local residents who are struggling to keep up with their electric, water, or gas bills.

The program provides financial relief to qualified households facing disconnection or difficulty paying utilities due to unexpected expenses, income loss, or other hardships. Assistance is offered through federally and state-funded programs, including the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and related local initiatives managed by Charlotte County.

Applicants must meet income eligibility guidelines and provide documentation such as proof of residence, identification, and recent utility bills. Funds are paid directly to the utility company on the applicant’s behalf, and depending on program availability, may cover both overdue and current balances.

County officials encourage anyone who needs help to apply as soon as possible, since funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. “This program can make the difference between keeping essential services on or facing disconnection,” said Human Services staff. “We want residents to know assistance is available and confidential.”

Applications can be completed online through the county’s Assistance Programs portal, or in person at the Human Services office located at 1050 Loveland Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33980. Residents may also call (941) 633-8213 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

For many families, this program offers more than just financial help—it provides peace of mind and stability during challenging times. Charlotte County continues to remind residents that help is available, and reaching out early increases the chances of receiving assistance before a service interruption occurs.
