Trivia Question❓Before it was renamed El Jobean in 1923, what was the name of the small settlement on the Myakka River that was originally platted by a land developer who hoped to turn it into a fishing resort? Answer at the bottom of the newsletter |
The Miracle Bucket Sale returns to Port Charlotte August 1–3, offering locals a chance to support Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida with every donation. Suffice to say, if you've never had a child in NICU for a serious illness or physical defect, you've no idea of the heartache.
For a mere $5 gift to Children’s Miracle Network, customers at all three Sunshine Ace Hardware locations receive a limited-edition red bucket and 20% off almost everything that fits inside. And let's face it, who doesn't need a 5 gallon bucket? Why pay DepotHome for one, when you can contribute to an incredible worthy cause instead.
Funds raised give vital support to Golisano Children's Hospital, the only children’s hospital between Tampa and Miami, serving families across Charlotte, Lee, Collier, Glades, and Hendry counties.
Every bucket helps provide NICU care, pediatric cancer treatment, and emergency services for local kids.
Since partnering with Children’s Miracle Network in 2019, Sunshine Ace Hardware’s Port Charlotte stores have helped raise nearly $500,000 for children’s healthcare.
Residents can join the effort at any of the three participating stores on Tamiami Trail, Kings Highway, or at Babcock Ranch.

Have you been wondering when Bayshore Live Oak Park in Port Charlotte will fully reopen?.
As of mid-July 2025, Charlotte County is still in the design and permitting phase for major repairs and habitat restoration following hurricane damage. Construction plans for the remaining closed areas are currently being developed.
Progress is slower than usual due to the park’s sensitive shoreline and marine environments. The county must navigate a complex permitting process, including coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA for required approvals and reimbursements. These environmental and regulatory steps must be completed before significant repair work can begin.
In short, while work is ongoing behind the scenes, a firm reopening date hasn’t been set yet. We’ll continue to monitor updates and share them as soon as new information becomes available.
Sounds like a fancy way of sayin' "don't hold your breath"....

Since it opened, there have been lots of formal and informal discusstions about the need for a traffic light at the entrance to Sunseeker Resorts. There have been several accidents, some very serious at that location. An expensive traffic study was done, and it was determined that a signal wasn't necessary, based on traffic volume. In spite of that, this week, the traffic light was installed.
