The Pirates went toe-to-toe with powerhouse Venice on Friday night, coming up just short, 29–22, in a game that showcased our resilience and talent on the road at Powell Davis Stadium. Despite the loss, Port Charlotte (3–1) showed why it belongs among the South Suncoast elite.
Junior quarterback Logan Flaherty once again proved he’s one of the region’s best. Against a tough Venice defense, Flaherty accounted for over 200 passing yards, multiple touchdowns, and more than 40 yards rushing. Even with constant penalties putting the offense in tough spots, he kept the Pirates moving and gave us chances to win.
Our defense had its moments too, forcing an interception before halftime and nearly flipping the game late in the fourth. A fumble recovery gave Port Charlotte the ball deep in Venice territory, and the Pirates powered to the 1-yard line before being stopped inches short of tying things up.
It was a true heartbreaker, but a reminder of this team’s fight. Last year’s shootout ended 49–41; this year, we were a single play away. If Friday proved anything, it’s that the Pirates are capable of battling anyone — and this season is far from over. |
